What's going on?
Parliament Loan Box
5C had a wonderful session on Thursday looking into the workings of the government. We were sent Parliament's loan box from London which is a free resource for schools. We used it to develop classroom a classroom debate about whether children should be allowed to vote at a younger age. We looked at the concept of law making and the democratic process of having a debate through active learning. We used exact replicas of the backdrops of The House of Commons and The House of Lords along with:
- Speaker's robe
- A Bill
- Despatch Box
- Division bell

Year 5 had a wonderful residential to Waddow Hall where they took part in many activities ranging from zip-lining to crate stacking, they fumbled around the night line and went grass sledging too!
They were determined to give everything a try and were great at working in teams - even if it was pouring with rain!
What's going on this half term?
We have lots of things to look forward to next term including:
- Year 5 Residential (Tuesday 7th and Wednesday 8th May)

Our focus for enterprise week this year is 'Fabric'. Throughout the week we will be creating lots of different products, using recycled clothes and materials. If you have any old clothes at home, we would really appreciate the extra resources for enterprise!

- School Closed for Half Term (Friday 24th May - 4th June)
World Book Day
World book day was a roaring success with a large number of children arriving at school dressed as their favourite book characters. 5/6C saw a large selection of characters from a range of literature and we also took part in a WBD quiz. Felix and Aaron took home the prize as winners of the WBD quiz, showing that they have fabulous knowledge about films, authors and characters from a range of literature throughout history!
Well done Felix and Aaron!

Soak it up
On the 26th February, year 6 had a visit from Yorkshire Water and Yorkshire Wildlife Fund. They took part in a "Soak it up" workshop which looked at saving water and flood prevention. Have a look at our class gallery to see some pictures of what we did!
Take one culture
Our Spring 2 Wonder Week theme is 'Take One Culture'. This year, we will be studying the partition of India in 1947. It is a very important historical event that explains a lot of the modern-day issues in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and the U.K.
There are various resources on this webpage that will help you study this topic further.
Partition of India... 70 years on
It's the 70th anniversary of the Partition of India. In August 1947, British India won its independence and split into two new states - India and Pakistan.
Our PE lesson takes place for Year 5/6C pupils on Thursday afternoons. Lessons can be both indoor and outdoor, depending on the weather, so please make sure your child has the correct kit in school, including trainers or pumps.
This half term, it is 5/6C's turn to go to forest school. A letter will go home with all the information and kit needed. Thank you to all the parent volunteers!
