Welcome to Year Five - Kingfishers

Wow! The summer term is already upon us and as we begin to explore our new areas of learning, we’re so proud of the way the children have grown in their knowledge, resilience and learning.

This half term, we are going to be learning all about the Victorians and the impact (both positive and negative) that the British Empire had on the rest of the world. The tomato seeds we planted last half term haven’t half grown and are all ready for our Science lessons where we’re going to be considering how plants reproduce alongside animal life cycles. Architect and designer Charlotte Perriand provides us with our inspiration for Art and DT and we will be continuing our coding journey in Computing.

Reminder: the second half of our class are swimming on WEDNESDAY afternoons.

World Book Day 2025

World Book Day 2025

To celebrate World Book Day 2025, the Kingfishers were invited to dress up as a favourite character. We participated in the BBCs ‘Big Read’ and their live lesson. We spent time reading in class, hearing stories and creating our own characters and stories. As ever, the children were thoughtful, considerate and shared some brilliant ideas with one another.

Kingfisher Blog Style Writing

Kingfisher Blog Style Writing

Our class have been learning about Kingfishers and how to support them in the local area. To the right, examples of blog pages (designed, created and curated by our pupils) can be found and accessed.

To remain fully compliant with GDPR, pupils are only referred to by their roll number on our class register. Our children know their own number and will be able to identify their writing to share with you at home.

Children have worked hard to develop a chatty, informal tone that remains informative and incorporates the grammar conventions, punctuation and vocabulary taught during this write.
